Agency client-acquisition templates

Six templates for lead-gen agencies prospecting their own next clients. Every other agency is sending 'we generate leads for you' — these templates take a different angle.

Lead-gen agencies sell to people who get prospected constantly. The framing has to be different from generic agency outreach. The templates below position around outcomes, results, and curiosity — not 'we have an agency, want to talk?'

Template 1 — The 'opposite' opener

Context: Connection request that sets the agency apart from typical lead-gen pitches.

Hi [name] — the opposite of most agency pitches: not asking if you'd like to outsource lead-gen. Asking what's actually broken in your current outbound (because I might know how to fix one specific thing). Worth a connect?

Use when: Targeting heads of growth, founders, or VP Sales who get tons of agency outreach.

Expected reply rate: 12–18% reply rate. The 'opposite' framing breaks the autopilot 'no thanks.'

Template 2 — Specific result reference

Context: Reference a specific result you got for a similar client.

Hi [name] — recently worked with [similar company] and helped them go from [specific metric] to [specific better metric]. Took us [time] and [specific approach]. Curious if your team's wrestling with the same thing. Worth a quick chat?

Use when: When you can credibly cite a specific result for a similar-shape client.

Expected reply rate: 15–22% reply rate. Specificity beats vague claims.

Template 3 — Diagnostic offer

Context: Offer a free audit / diagnostic instead of a sales call.

Hi [name] — quick offer: I'll review your last 30 days of LinkedIn outreach and tell you what's working / what isn't. No commitment, no pitch attached. Mostly because I'm curious how teams in [their industry] are running it. Open to it?

Use when: Targets who'd benefit from a free expert opinion. The offer should be small, specific, and actually useful.

Expected reply rate: 20–30% reply rate. Free useful thing converts well, but you have to deliver the audit honestly.

Template 4 — Industry-trend opener

Context: Reference a recent industry trend or change relevant to their team.

Hey [name] — interesting industry shift I've been seeing: [specific trend]. Talking to [similar role] folks across [industry] about how it's affecting their outbound numbers. Worth comparing notes?

Use when: When there's a real industry shift and you have data to share.

Expected reply rate: 12–18% reply rate. Insider-knowledge framing converts well at senior levels.

Template 5 — Customer-of-theirs reference

Context: When you share a customer (you and they both work with the same company in different roles).

Hi [name] — ran into [shared client name] in conversation recently and they mentioned the work your team's been doing. Came back to your profile to say hello and see if there's an angle for collaboration on the lead-gen side.

Use when: Genuine shared customer relationship, with permission to name-drop.

Expected reply rate: 25–35% reply rate. Shared customer is high-trust signal.

Template 6 — Conference / event follow-up

Context: After meeting at an industry event.

Hey [name] — was great chatting at [event] last week. Wanted to follow up on what you said about [specific thing they mentioned]. We've got a thread of work that connects to it; want to see if I can be useful?

Use when: Within 7-14 days of an event. Reference something they actually said.

Expected reply rate: 40–55% reply rate. Event follow-up to a real conversation is the highest-trust outreach there is.

How to use these with AI personalization

These templates are scaffolds, not scripts. The strongest version of each comes from AI personalization that fills in the [specific reference] placeholders with real, prospect-specific details. Most of the reply-rate variance comes from the quality of those references — mail-merge filling them with generic strings underperforms hand-written, which AI synthesis can match at scale.
