Founder-led sales templates

Six templates for founders doing their own LinkedIn outreach. The constraint: every message has to sound like the founder wrote it, even when AI personalization scaled the volume.

Founder-led outreach lives or dies on authenticity. Templates have to be loose scaffolds for AI personalization, not rigid scripts. Context: Connection request from a founder building in the prospect's domain.

Use when: Pre-product-market-fit. The opener doubles as customer discovery.

Expected reply rate: 20–30% reply rate. 'Tell me I'm wrong' is disarming.

Template 2 — Founder asks for advice

Context: Connection request positioning as junior to the prospect.

Hey [name] — your background in [specific area] is exactly the perspective I'm trying to learn from. Founding [company], wrestling with [specific question]. Would 15 min of your wisdom be too much to ask? Happy to make it actually useful.

Use when: Targeting senior people whose advice you'd genuinely benefit from. Some will become customers; some won't; both outcomes are good.

Expected reply rate: 30–45% reply rate. Asking for advice converts dramatically better than pitching.

Template 3 — Founder shares context, asks for connection

Context: Connection request without an immediate ask. Just establishing presence.

Hi [name] — we're both [role/segment context]. [One specific observation about their work]. Connecting because I imagine our paths will cross professionally. (No pitch attached.)

Use when: Long-game relationship-building with people who will become buyers in 6–18 months.

Expected reply rate: 35–50% accept rate (no-pitch-attached requests accept much higher). Reply rate from accepts: 8–12%, with the conversation continuing organically.

Template 4 — Specific testimonial or shared experience

Context: When you have a specific shared experience or mutual customer.

Hi [name] — saw [shared thing: a panel you both attended, a customer you both serve, a person you both know]. Wanted to reach out because [specific connection between their work and yours]. Quick connect?

Use when: Real shared context. Don't fake this.

Expected reply rate: 20–28% reply rate. Specificity converts.

Template 5 — Founder-to-founder peer outreach

Context: Founder reaching another founder at a similar-stage / similar-domain company.

Hey [name] — fellow founder building [related thing]. Saw your post about [specific topic]; been thinking about it from a different angle. Worth a quick founder-to-founder talk? I'll bring more questions than pitches.

Use when: Founder peers, especially in adjacent or complementary spaces.

Expected reply rate: 25–35% reply rate. Founder-to-founder peer outreach has very low salesy-feel.

Template 6 — Post-content follow-up

Context: After the prospect engaged with your LinkedIn content (commented, liked, shared).

Hey [name] — saw your comment on my post about [topic]. Genuine question: how are you handling [related sub-problem] in your own setup? Curious because [specific reason].

Use when: Within 3-5 days of their engagement. The signal fades fast.

Expected reply rate: 30–45% reply rate. Engaged prospects already raised their hand.

How to use these with AI personalization

These templates are scaffolds, not scripts. The strongest version of each comes from AI personalization that fills in the [specific reference] placeholders with real, prospect-specific details.
